Water & Sediment Control Basin (WASCOB)

A WASCOB is a dry dam with a riser above it that connects to a tile that outlets downstream at a suitable location (ditch or stream preferably). It is designed to drain within 24 hours as to not damage crops. Dam side slopes can be designed at a flatter slope to allow farming over it, or slopes can be steeper and planted to grass. WASCOBs can be an alternative to grassed waterways that are easier to spray around; however, the right conditions are needed in the landscape and watershed size. Many sites require multiple or a series of basins as shown in the top picture.
