Human/Wildlife Conflicts

Wildlife Conflicts

In Fairfield County there are numerous species of wildlife that create problems when their natural behavior physically damages personal property, interrupts our daily routines, or causes financial loss due to equipment repairs or crop yield reduction.

For farmers and commercial fruit and produce growers, white-tailed deer are often the most common source of conflict.  These large herbivores can cause considerable yield reduction to row crops and produce due to browse damage, or can physically damage plants and trees by trampling or rubbing them.

Besides deer, other animals can exhibit behavior that creates conflicts with people too.  Whether it’s raccoons rooting through a trash can, squirrels raiding bird feeders, or even blue herons eating fish from a pond, humans and wildlife don’t always see eye to eye.

If you are experiencing a conflict with wildlife, please contact our Wildlife Specialist for assistance in identifying the species causing the problem and methods to reduce future issues.
